Switching from tawk.to

Free, and you're still looking.

tawk.to gives away more than anyone in this market, and if it were working for you you wouldn't be reading this. Here are the three reasons people usually are, and whether we actually fix them.

One site, and the badge doesn't bother you? Stay. We wrote that section ourselves too.

Free, and then priced per website

The product costs nothing, and that is not a trick. The one thing it costs money to change is whose name is on it - and that fee is charged per property.

tawk.to
$0

The product, actually free

Unlimited agents, unlimited chats, unlimited history, as many properties as you like. Ticketing, a knowledge base, triggers and reporting on top. No card, no trial clock. We can't beat this and we're not going to pretend we can.

tawk.to/pricing
tawk.to
$29

Per website, to remove the badge

“Powered by tawk.to” sits on your widget, your chat page, your ticket emails and your knowledge base until you pay. $29 a month per property on annual billing, $39 month to month. Add-ons aren't shared between properties.

help.tawk.to - add-on pricing
tiny.help
$29

Three sites, no badge anywhere

Three sites, three people, every feature, each site branded as itself. There is no tier of ours that puts our name on your widget - it isn't an add-on, because it was never there.

tiny.help/pricing

Their AI is metered the same way: AI Assist is $29 a month per property for 1,000 message credits, $99 for 5,000, $399 for 20,000, and extra credits are $30 per 1,000. Ours drafts on the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for, so there's no AI line on our bill - and no unattended answering either.

The badge is priced per site, not per account

This is the one that catches people out. A property in tawk.to is one website, and an add-on you buy applies only to the property you bought it for. Two sites means two subscriptions.

One website
$29
a month, billed annually

$348 a year, or $39 if you pay monthly. At one site their annual rate is exactly our price - and at that point it's a straight product comparison, not a price one.

Three websites
$87
a month, billed annually

Three separate subscriptions, three renewals, three invoices. Our Freelancer plan is $29 for all three, each branded as itself, with one inbox behind them.

Six websites
$174
a month, billed annually

Six properties, six add-on subscriptions. Studio covers all six for $79, everyone on the team included, and nobody's name on the widget but yours.

Three reasons people leave something free

None of them is the price. Every figure here is checkable in ten minutes, because signing up is free.

Reason one
The badge
$39 a site to remove

“Powered by tawk.to” sits on your widget, in front of your customers, advertising someone else. Taking it off is charged per website. We fix this: no badge, on any plan, ever.

Reason two
The upsells
Built into free

Free is paid for somehow. Here it's hired agents at $1 an hour, AI credits, video and voice, branding removal, each with a surface inside the product nudging you toward it. We fix this: one price, and nothing to upgrade to.

Reason three
The setup
12 steps, and you start at 31%

Sign up and it hands you a numbered checklist: create a property, invite members, take the dashboard tour, watch the demo, customise the widget, create a shortcut, set up a knowledge base, add a contact, install the app, check out the community. Five panes on screen, and your first visitor is called V1775689738396521. We fix this: paste one line, and answer someone.

To be fair about the third one: that checklist exists because tawk.to genuinely does all of those things, and a product with more surface has more to set up. The difference is a design choice, not a defect. They give you a setting for everything; we picked the ordinary answer to almost every question and left you one decision, which is where to paste the script tag. If you want the settings, theirs is free and ours will annoy you.

What it actually comes to

Every tawk.to bill here starts at $0, because that's the true number. The only line that isn't free is their name coming off, and it's counted once per website.

One website · three peopleUSD · per month · annual billing
Them tawk.toPer month
Them tawk.to as it comes, three agentsUnlimited chats and history, ticketing, knowledge base, reporting. “Powered by tawk.to” on the widget and on your ticket emails.$0
Them Remove Branding × 1 property$348 a year, which is $29 a month. Month to month it's $39.$29
Them tawk.to, branded as you$29
Them Or the same, paid month to month$39 a property. There's no discount for having only one.$39
Us tiny.help FreelancerThree sites and three people, every feature, no branding at any tier. Your own Claude or ChatGPT plan does the drafting.$29

At one site their annual rate is exactly our price. Past that it multiplies, because they charge per property and we don't: three sites is $87 against our $29, six is $174 against $79, twenty-five is $725 against $199. And if you never take the badge off, tawk.to stays at $0 for all of them - that column is real, and it's the first row of every bill above.

tawk.to figures from tawk.to/pricing and their help centre add-on pricing, fetched 31 August 2026. Their pricing page quotes $29 a month flat; their help centre says $39 a month or $348 a year, so $29 is the annual rate. We may have got some of this wrong.

Line by line

They win most of these rows, and it isn't close. That was never the question - the question is whether the rows you actually use are worth a badge on your widget.

tawk.to capabilities and add-on prices as published on tawk.to and help.tawk.to, 31 August 2026.

We may well have got some of this wrong

Every tawk.to figure and feature here was read off their own website and help centre on 31 August 2026. Two of their own pages disagree: tawk.to/pricing says Remove Branding is “$29/month” with no qualifier, and their help centre lists $39 a month or $348 a year and states that add-ons aren't shared across properties. We've read that as $29 being the annual rate and the fee being per property, which is the reading most favourable to them on price and least favourable on how many times you pay it. If we've read it wrong, we'd like to know.

This is our best effort, not gospel, and we're plainly not a neutral party.

Two claims we make in tawk.to's favour - that the free tier allows as many properties as you like, and keeps chat history indefinitely - we could not find stated on tawk.to's own pages. Several independent reviews say both, and nothing on their site contradicts either, so we've let them stand. Worth knowing they're the two least-sourced facts here. Treat it as a guide, not a quote. Price your own case against their pricing page before you decide anything. If something here is out of date or simply wrong, tell us - we'll correct it the same day and say what changed. This page is reviewed quarterly.

When you should stay on tawk.to

Often. tawk.to gives away, free and unlimited, a product other companies charge hundreds a month for, and that is not something we can argue with.

For what it's worth, I set tawk.to up on a site and didn't stay. Nothing was broken. The checklist had twelve items on it and told me I was 31% finished before I'd answered anybody, and that turned out to be the whole difference: not that theirs is worse, but that it asks you to make a great many decisions before it does anything. If you want those decisions, take them. It's free, and you'll know inside an afternoon. John, who builds tiny.help

Start here: it is free, and free wins. If you have one website and you don't mind “Powered by tawk.to” on your widget, stay where you are. You would be paying us $29 a month for something you're currently getting for nothing, and no amount of writing on our part changes that arithmetic. Stay, or go there, if any of this is you:

  • Your budget is genuinely zero. Not “small” - zero. There is no free tier here. We ask for a card on day one and charge on day fifteen, and if that's the blocker then tawk.to is the honest answer, not us.
  • You need more than three people and can't spend $79. tawk.to's agent count is unlimited at $0. Our $29 plan stops at three people; everyone-included starts at Studio.
  • A knowledge base is load-bearing. Theirs is free, searchable and feeds their AI. We don't have one at all, at any price.
  • You want an AI answering unattended. AI Assist will answer chats 24/7 from your knowledge base. Every reply on tiny.help waits for a person to press send - that's a design decision, not a roadmap item.
  • You want to hire the humans too. Trained agents from $1 an hour is a real service and we have nothing like it.
  • You need reporting, tags, ratings or visitor monitoring. All free on tawk.to. All absent here.
  • Customers reach you on WhatsApp, Messenger or SMS. They have those channels. We do the web widget and email, and that's the whole list.
The honest summary: tawk.to isn't a worse product than ours, it's a much bigger one, given away in exchange for a badge. We're the better deal in exactly one shape: several sites that each have to look like themselves, with nobody's name on the widget but the client's. At that point you're not comparing against their free plan any more - you're comparing against their $29 per site, which is what our $29 covers three of.

What moving actually looks like

No migration project, and no rush - the tawk.to property costs nothing to leave running while you decide.

01

Swap the widget

Take the tawk.to embed out, put our script tag in, just before </body>. Each of your sites gets its own key, its own name and its own colour - and nobody's badge.

02

Point your support address here

Forward support@ at your desk address and email lands in the same inbox as the chat. Replies you send from your own inbox thread back into the visitor's chat window.

03

Teach it your voice, once

Paste a page of tone notes, connect Claude, and every draft sounds like you. It runs on the plan you already pay for, so there's no per-property AI subscription to buy.

<script src="https://tiny.help/w.js" data-key="wk_your_site_key" async></script>

What doesn't come across: your chat history, your knowledge base articles, your triggers, your shortcuts and any channel integrations. tawk.to will export your chat history as a ZIP of JSON, so the archive is genuinely yours - and because the property stays free, you can leave it running read-only for as long as you like rather than racing a cancellation date. If your knowledge base is doing real work, that alone is a reason to stay.

Who actually switches

This is for you if…

  • You look after several client sites and each one has to look like the client, not like a chat vendor.
  • You've already bought Remove Branding twice and worked out where a third takes you.
  • You're one to five people and nobody's job title contains the word “support”.
  • You already pay for Claude or ChatGPT and would rather your AI ran on that than on message credits.
  • You use maybe a fifth of tawk.to and would trade the rest for one inbox that's quiet.

It isn't for you if…

  • You have one site and the badge has never once bothered you.
  • Free is the requirement, not the preference.
  • You need more than three seats and $79 a month isn't on the table.
  • Your knowledge base, triggers or reporting are doing real work.
  • You want an AI answering overnight without anyone reading it first.
  • Customers reach you on WhatsApp, Messenger or SMS.

Questions.

Why would I pay $29 when tawk.to is free?

If you have one website and you don't mind “Powered by tawk.to” sitting on your widget, you shouldn't - stay, it's free and we can't beat that. You'd pay us for one of two reasons. The first is branding: removing tawk.to's name costs $29 a month per property on annual billing, so two sites already cost more than our whole plan and three cost $87. We put no branding on any widget at any tier. The second is the AI: ours drafts in your voice on the Claude or ChatGPT plan you already pay for, with a human approving every send, and there's no AI line on our bill. The full pricing is here.

Is tawk.to actually free?

Yes. Unlimited agents, unlimited chats, unlimited chat history, as many properties as you like, plus ticketing, a knowledge base, triggers, canned replies and reporting - free, with no trial clock and no card. They make their money on add-ons and on hired agents at $1 an hour. The catch is the badge on the widget and on your ticket emails, and the fact that removing it is priced per website.

How much does it cost to remove tawk.to branding?

$39 a month per property, or $348 a year per property, which works out at $29 a month. Their pricing page quotes the $29 figure flat, without saying it's the annual rate or that it's charged per property; their help centre gives both numbers and states that add-ons aren't shared across properties. So one site is $29 a month paid annually, three sites is $87, six is $174 and twenty-five is $725. Our note on that discrepancy is here.

What does tawk.to do that tiny.help doesn't?

Quite a lot. Unlimited agents on the free plan, a knowledge base, ticketing, reporting with tags and satisfaction ratings, real-time visitor monitoring, triggers, departments and auto-routing, WhatsApp, Messenger and SMS channels, video and voice and screen sharing as an add-on, a JavaScript API, webhooks and a REST API on request, an AI that answers unattended 24/7, and human agents you can hire from $1 an hour. We have none of it. The honest version is up there.

Can I import my tawk.to chat history?

Not automatically. tawk.to will export your chat history as a ZIP of JSON, so the archive is genuinely yours to keep, but there's no importer at our end. In practice most people install our widget, leave the tawk.to property running until the old conversations go quiet - it costs nothing to leave it there - and hold the export.

Do I need Claude to make this worth it?

No. Without any AI, tiny.help is still a complete help desk (widget, shared inbox, email in and out, push to your phone) and you write the replies yourself. If you already pay for Claude or ChatGPT, the connector is included on every plan and there's nothing more to buy, where tawk.to's AI Assist starts at $29 a month per property for 1,000 message credits and extra credits are $30 per 1,000.

Nobody's name on it but yours.

Three sites, three people, $29 a month, no badge on any of them. Paste one script tag and connect the AI you already pay for. If it isn't better in a fortnight, cancel in one click.

$29 a month, every plan is everything. If you're better off staying free, we'll tell you.
