What the others actually cost

Every live chat vendor publishes a price that isn't the price. We sat down in August 2026 and worked out what fourteen of them charge one small team for one real job — three people, three websites — then wrote up the ones worth a closer look.

Sourced, dated, and honest about when you're better off staying where you are.

How these pages work

Comparison pages written by the competitor are usually worthless. Here's what we do instead, and you can hold us to it.

Real prices, with a date

Every figure comes off the vendor's own pricing page, carries the day we fetched it, and links back to the source. When it goes stale, that's visible rather than hidden.

What they do better

Each page has a section naming what the other product does that we don't — and there's always something. If we can't write that section honestly, we don't publish the page.

When to stay put

We'd rather lose the sale than take on someone who needs a help centre, an autonomous AI or an SLA. Every page says plainly who should close the tab.

Three people, three websites

The same job, priced across the market. Cheapest tier that actually does it, month to month, no annual discount assumed.

Monthly cost — 3 people, 3 sites USD · month to month · fetched 26 Aug 2026
ProductPer month
Chatim StarterFlat rate, but no AI at this tier — Pro is $29$9
tiny.help Freelancer3 sites, 3 people, everything — and your own Claude does the drafting$29
Chaport Pro4 operators, unlimited sites; no AI~$42
Crisp Mini, one workspaceAll three sites share one inbox; Crisp branding until Plus at $295$45
Chatwoot Startups × 3Annual billing only; branded until Enterprise at $99 an agent$57
Freshchat Growth × 3$69
HelpCrunch Pro × 35 widgets, unbranded$75
tawk.to, unbranded × 3The product is free; removing the branding is $29 a property$87
Help Scout Standard × 3AI Drafts included — the closest thing to how we think$90
Chatra Essential × 3Unlimited sites, email included$93
Plain Foundation1 + 2 seats; Slack and B2B first$105
Intercom Essential × 3Plus $105 for Copilot, plus $49.50 a month minimum for Fin — see the full breakdown$117
Crisp Mini × 3 workspacesOne inbox per site, because that's how Crisp splits$135
Zendesk Suite Team × 3Annual rate; monthly isn't published, and works out around $207$165
LiveChat Team × 3Starter at $25 is one user only$177
Pylon Starter3-seat minimum, no trial, sales call before you see it$210

Only one product on this list undercuts us, and it has no AI at that tier. Everything above $29 is buying you fewer people, fewer sites, someone else's branding, or an AI meter — usually several at once. We may have got some of this wrong.

The closer looks

Where a number alone doesn't tell the story, we write the whole thing up.

Switching from Intercom

Two meters running at once: $29 a seat, then $0.99 every time Fin resolves something, with a $49.50 monthly floor. Four bills from one site to twenty-five, the multibrand step that takes three seats from $87 to $396, and an honest list of the six reasons to stay.

Next up

Four more to come, in this order — each for a specific thing that goes wrong at a specific size:

  • Crisp — a separate workspace per website, at $45 each
  • tawk.to — when the unbranding fee costs more than a help desk
  • Chatwoot — for developers who priced out self-hosting
  • Help Scout — the closest philosophical neighbour, per user

Want one of these sooner, or a comparison we haven't listed? Ask us and we'll write that one next.

We may well have got some of this wrong

Every figure on this page was read off the vendor's own pricing page in late August 2026. But this is a market that hides its real numbers: tiers, add-ons, usage charges, minimums, annual-only billing, and prices that only appear once you're inside an account or on a sales call. Some rows above required a judgement about which tier honestly does the job. This is our best effort, not gospel — and we're plainly not a neutral party.

Treat it as a guide, not a quote. Price your own case against each vendor before you decide anything. If something here is out of date or simply wrong, tell us — we'll correct it the same day and say what changed. These pages are reviewed quarterly.

$29, and one invoice.

Three sites, three people, every feature, and the AI you already pay for does the drafting. Fourteen days free, and we'll tell you if you're better off elsewhere.
